Psychological
Assessments:
Dr. Cochrane
uses the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2)
combined with thorough interview procedures to produce accurate,
reliable and well written psychological reports.
Dr. Cochrane
has assessed the psychological health of physicians for the College
of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C., of lawyers for the Law Society of
B.C., of pharmacists for the College
of Pharmacists of B.C. and he has provided addiction assessments,
treatment recommendations and expert testimony for the Registered
Nurses Association of B.C. on numerous occasions. He has also
provided assessments and reports for a number of insurance companies
and law firms.
He also provides
consultations to law firms concerning formal and informal assessments
provided by other health professionals. Sometimes important
aspects of assessments can be based on erroneous assumptions, misinterpretations
or opinion and meaning attribution rather than on credible science.
There is much that we don't know in psychology but when testimony
is based on what we know that isn't so, justice is poorly served.
Dr. Cochrane
also provides consultation to law firms concerning the reliability
and validity of a number of assessment instruments. Assessment
tools such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Rorschach Ink
Blot Test for example, are not sufficiently reliable to be utilized
in legal decisions.
